Moore, Walz Capture Gold at FIBA U-19 World Championship

GOLD! For the second-consecutive season, Mariya Moore and head coach Jeff Walz have helped guide USA Basketball to gold. The U.S. Women's U-19 World Championship Team defeated Russia Sunday in the 2015 FIBA World Championship.
Mariya Moore and head coach Jeff Walz are becoming unstoppable when teamed together with USA Basketball.

The duo helped lead the U.S. Women’s U-19 World Championship Team to gold on Sunday afternoon, beating host Russia 78-70 at the 2015 FIBA U-19 World Championships in Chekhov, Russia. The U.S. put together a perfect 7-0 mark in tournament play.

Moore, who has been stellar on the international scene, had another solid all-around game, with six points, five rebounds, and three assists. In seven games, the rising sophomore has 10.3 points on 47.7 percent shooting, connecting on a U.S.-best 11-of-25 from 3-point range. She also added 2.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

It’s the second-consecutive summer the pair has earned hardware and, combined, they are 12-0 with USA Basketball. In August 2014, Moore and Walz guided the U.S. U-18 Women's National Team to a 5-0 mark for USA Basketball’s seventh-consecutive gold medal in the FIBA Americas U-18 Championship.

Walz, who is entering his ninth season at the helm of the Cardinals, served as an assistant coach on a U.S. team for the second-consecutive time. Moore, who averaged a team-best 13.4 points along with 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 2014-15, earned Associated Press All-America honorable mention accolades and was tabbed a first team Full Court Freshman All-American.
