League Notes
The second weekend of conference action concluded with a tie for the top spot in the still-early Atlantic Division standings, where Florida State and Louisville both own 5-1 league records. Things are even tighter in the Coastal Division, where Virginia Tech's sweep of top-ranked Virginia, coupled with Miami's sweep of NC State, left the Hokies and Hurricanes in a three-way tie with Georgia Tech at 4-2 in ACC play.

ACC Player of the Week David Thompson of Miami helped key the Hurricanes to a perfect week with four home runs and 13 RBIs in five games. ACC Pitcher of the Week Sean Keselica of Virginia Tech tossed a complete-game four-hitter in a 2-1 win that led off the Virginia series, allowing one unearned run while walking just one batter.

Florida State sophomore first baseman Quincy Nieporte also had a big week at the plate, hitting .529 and driving in 10 runs, including seven in a win over 10th-ranked UCF and two more in Sunday's 9-6 ACC series-clinching win over Wake Forest.

Georgia Tech's share of the Coastal Division lead is due in large part to the efforts of Brandon Gold, who has not allowed a run in his last 22 innings while yielding eight hits (all singles) and striking out 20 batters with three walks. Gold, 3-0 since joining the rotation, lowered his ERA to an ACC-best 0.61 with seven shutout innings in Sunday's 4-0 win at Duke.

Louisville freshman Brendan McKay has been one of the most versatile pitchers in the league thus far, as evidenced by his efforts last week. McKay picked up his fourth save in aTuesday win over Ole Miss, tying him for second among ACC closers. Four days later, he started and worked seven innings in a 13-0 shutout of Boston College, allowing three hits and striking out nine batters … Meanwhile, Wake Forest's Matt Pirro (5-0) leads the nation in wins after earning the decision in the Demon Deacons' lone victory over FSU in last weekend's series … Clemson's Matthew Crownover stands 4-0 after allowing three hits and no earned runs in Saturday's 6-1 win over Notre Dame. Opponents are hitting .162 versus Crownover this season.

Virginia Tech's three straight wins over Virginia marked the Hokies' first three-game sweep of a nationally-ranked opponent since joining the ACC for the 2005 season.

A full slate of conference games is set for this weekend, but ACC teams will first turn their attention to a busy midweek. Tuesday's schedule features 13 nonconference games, and five more are set for Wednesday.
