7. OK, since ONLY ONE OF YOU got the correct answer to the last question, I’ve come up with one that should be much easier.

Most of the current ACC members have long standing series, and even the newer members have established series, albeit with much shorter history. And many of these series are very close in terms of which team has won more games than the other. In fact, there are quite a few series that are tied, with each team having won the same number of games, for a 50% record against the other.

All of the series between the teams listed below are tied at 50% wins for each, except one. Which one is not?

NC St. vs Duke

Virginia vs Duke

Louisville vs Pitt

Miami vs Virginia

North Carolina vs Syracuse

Clemson vs Notre Dame

Either these questions are way too tough, or they are way too trivial. NOT A SINGLE CORRECT ANSWER from anyone.

Clemson and Notre Dame haven’t met in 35 years, and only twice ever. They traded home field wins in 1977 and 1979, for an even 1-1 record. They’ll break the tie this October.

North Carolina and Syracuse have met 4 times since 1995, with the home team winning each time, for a 2-2 record. And unless they meet up in the ACC championship game in the next 4 seasons, the record will stand until 2019, when they are next scheduled to play.

Miami beat Virginia in their first ever meeting in the 1996 Carquest Bowl. Since then, they’ve played every year since 2004. Virginia has never led the series, but last year’s win brought them even at 6-6 overall. The Cavs will get their chance to take the series lead for the 1st time this year against their division foe Hurricanes.

Louisville has played Pitt more than any other current ACC member. Beginning in 1976, Pitt won 4 straight games before Louisville reeled off 7 straight wins from 1990 through 2007. Pitt won the next 4, taking back the series lead, but Louisville evened things up the last time they met in 2012, for an overall 8-8 mark. The Cards and Panthers are in different divisions, but will break the tie this season, as they are scheduled in a cross-division matchup.

Virginia's 1st game against Duke was a 10-4 victory in 1890. But after 40 contests, the Cavs had fallen behind in the series 15-25. To date, over the 125 years since that first game, they've met a total of 66 times. Surprisingly, there is not a single tie game over that period, even though the overall series IS tied, at 33-33, meaning the Cav's have won 18 of the the last 26 times they've faced the Blue Devils.

NC St. and Duke didn’t play at all until 1924, but have since faced each other the most of this group, 82 times. Duke has won 41 of those 82 games, but the Wolfpack could manage only a tie in 5 of the other 41. And it may take a while for the ‘Pack to catch up, as the two are now in different divisions and won’t get a chance to play again until 2020.

So the answer: Duke vs NC St., with Duke holding the series edge 41-36-5.
